Industrial Ecology
As the Centre is located within the Burnside Industrial Park, it acts as an excellent laboratory for Industrial Ecology research. Industrial Ecology focuses on the flow of materials and energy though industrial systems and how they can be better designed to reduce, reuse and recycle material inflows and reduce or eliminate out flows - much like a natural ecosystem.

Environmental Management for SMEs
The Eco-Efficiency Centre has recognized the fact that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Nova Scotia and Canada lack the necessary resources to increase their environmental and financial performance. Having said this, environmental management within SMEs has been an on-going area of research for the Centre.
