Industrial Best Practices for Water Management Guide - 2009

The prevalence of discussions on water scarcity in Canada has been steadily increasing. As the number of dry wells increases and droughts become more frequent, widespread, and longer in duration, the signs of water scarcity are likely to become more commonplace. Water is an integral resource for businesses and indispensable to a product/service supply chain. The industrial systems within which companies typically operate are often linear and “down the drain” in nature. Inefficient water use, dated infrastructure and a lack of water management strategies are often characteristics of operations. If one were to draw a boundary around an industrial park and study its water inputs, uses, and disposal, recommendations can be made on how to use this resource as efficiently as possible.

The guide discusses the future of industry and industrial parks and their relationship to water.  After demonstrating the economical and environmental benefits from conservation practices, the guide then outlines the various best management practices available to reduce a company's/industrial park's water foorprint.
